Tips on How to Start The Year Healthy.

It's the beginning of a new year; for many, it's time for a fresh start. But if you're not thrilled about another round of New Year's resolutions, we are here to tell you that there are plenty of other ways to kickstart your health. In this blog post, we'll show you how we can use the month of January as an opportunity to make positive changes in our lives—and why they might be more important than ever before. Productive resolutions are where it's at. New beginnings are exciting, and the best place to start is with yourself! A new year is just around the corner, and you can be part of a new beginning for yourself. It's about time to stop bad habits and embrace the good ones. Put the bad behind you and create a new healthy New Year resolution.  Out with the Old, In with the New New Year's resolutions are a great way to start the year on the right foot, and we're sure you've heard your fair share of "don'ts" regarding them. Some people believe they're pointless or a waste of time; others say they're too hard to stick with. However, if you approach them mindfully and with care, they can be quite beneficial. The first thing that should be done when setting new goals is to reflect on your past so you can learn from it - what went well? What didn’t go as planned? What could be improved upon? Once you've taken stock of where you are now, it's time to brainstorm exactly where you'd like to go forward into the new year (and beyond). Make sure whatever goals or resolutions that have been set are realistic – don't set yourself up for failure! If things are being worked on in groups or teams at work or school, then sharing those goals with others will help hold each other accountable for them being met. What is the most common New Year’s Resolution? According to studies, 25% of people are likely to make New Year's resolutions. The most common resolution is “to lose weight,” and the second most common resolution is “to get organized.” Why do people make resolutions? People who have made a New Year resolution and didn't keep it always blame themselves or their lack of willpower for not reaching their goal. However, research shows that it's more about the way you set your goals than anything else. It's important to remember that success isn't achieved overnight; small steps taken over time help lead you toward achieving your ultimate goal. You may have heard the saying "out with the old, in with the new," and that's exactly what happens at the start of a New Year. People often resolve to improve their lives by making resolutions, which are goals or personal commitments they've set for themselves. The most common New Year resolutions to lose weight while quitting smoking and spending less money on alcohol are also popular. Other common resolutions include starting a new hobby, learning a language, and improving relationships with friends and family. How about taking a more holistic approach this year? It is time to make a resolution to improve your mental health. For those of us who live fast-paced, stressful lives, it’s important to take a moment now and then to focus on our mental health. With the new year just around the corner, why not start taking care of your mind and body? It’s time to get into shape. But what does that mean? For some people, it’s about getting toned abs or losing weight; for others, it could be gaining muscle mass or improving their flexibility and balance. Whatever goal(s) you have set for yourself this year – remember that exercise has many benefits beyond looking good!  Exercise has been shown to improve mood, lower stress levels, and even boost immunity by boosting our production of natural killer cells (NK). So invest some time in finding an activity that works for you – from swimming laps at the gym to yoga classes with friends – whatever gets your heart pumping is worth doing! And if nothing else: walking around outside for 20 minutes without cell phone distractions it will do wonders! Exercise can boost endorphins, help you sleep better, and improve your mental health and well-being. It's a great way to improve your mental health. It can help you sleep better, boost endorphins and improve your overall mental well-being. Exercise is also one of the best ways to manage stress. Many people find that when they exercise regularly, they feel calmer and more in control of their emotions than before they started exercising. Studies have shown that regular exercise can even lower depression levels in people with mild depression, who may not be taking medication for it. Exercising helps boost endorphins - chemicals in the brain which make us feel good by making us happy! When we exercise, these chemicals are released, making us feel happier and less anxious about life stresses such as exams/work, etc. Mental Health  Mental health is just as important as physical health. There are many ways you can improve your mental wellness: Talk to someone about how you're feeling. Whether it's a friend, family member, or professional, talking helps!  Make sure to get enough sleep every night so that your mind has enough time to wind down from whatever happened during the day before bedtime hits! Think about what makes you happy in life and do more of those things!  Find hobbies or activities that make you smile every day, like listening to music or dancing. Wellness tips for the new year Now that you have a better idea of what you want to do in the new year, it's time to start making plans. The first step is to keep track of your progress. A great way to do this is using an app such as My Fitness Pal or Fitbit. Keeping a record of how much weight you’ve lost or how many miles you’ve run will make it easier for you to stay motivated and on track with your goals. Another thing that helps maintain motivation is getting good sleep each night. According to WebMD, "the National Sleep Foundation reports that most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep every night." Try going to bed earlier to get enough hours and help regulate hormones responsible for hunger levels throughout the day (which will also help maintain motivation). When starting with any goal, it’s also important that we set realistic expectations for ourselves instead of trying something too advanced for our current skill level, like running marathons when we can barely jog around our neighborhood block without collapsing from exhaustion afterward!  Strength in Numbers One of the best ways to make a positive change is by joining a community of people who share your goal. Finding others who share your passions and interests can be challenging, but it’s worth it! Having someone to talk about your ups and downs with, or even just someone to motivate you when you feel like giving up. Finding a community that supports healthy living can help keep everyone accountable and on track. There are many types of communities: support groups, family members and friends, online forums…the list goes on! Here are some examples: Weight loss groups: These are often led by health professionals or other experts in the field (for example, “Weight Watchers”). They offer group meetings in person and online tools, so you don’t have to feel alone on this journey. They also offer lots of different activities for fun ways to stay active! Running clubs: If running is your thing, joining a club might be just what the doctor ordered! Most towns have at least one club, which lists them all out geographically so that finding one near you should be easy enough - they usually meet once per week at parks around town where they run together as opposed to training indoors which helps keep costs down while still being safe. It's More Than Fitness It's more than fitness. It's about wellness, mental health, and nutrition too. In other words, it's about living a healthy lifestyle. You may have already turned over a new leaf and are ready to continue. You may need help figuring out where to start or inspiration for self-improvement goals for 2023. Either way, here's how to make this year your healthiest yet: Get psyched: You can't just make one change at a time—you need an overall plan of attack that will help keep the momentum going all year long (and long after). For example, if losing weight is your goal, then figure out what that looks like by writing down what meals look like on paper. And maybe set some small milestones along the way—like working up to running five miles instead of taking it all on at once! Get informed: Reading up on strategies and tactics that work helps cement good habits into place so they become second nature later on down the road when cravings hit hard during stressful times or when life generally gets hectic! Take a Break! You've worked hard all year, and now it's time to take a break. Reducing your stress and taking care of yourself will help you get into the right mindset for making better choices in the coming year. So, how do you make sure that you're taking a break? Here are some ways: Unplug from social media. Sometimes people say they're going to "unplug" from something, but then they just keep their phone on them so they can check for notifications or whatever else is happening online. You may need to turn off your phone or computer when you want to disconnect (and this might mean turning off any alerts or other notifications). We recommend doing this while watching a movie with friends or family; just turn off everything else! If someone texts or calls during a designated "no-phone time," ignore it until later...or maybe forever! The new year is a great time to start something new. The new year is a great time to start something new. Whether you want to lose weight, gain more confidence, or spend more time with your family, the next 365 days are a blank slate. And that’s what makes it so exciting! The new year is a time for reflection and planning for the future. Think about your life and evaluate where you are now – what worked in 2018? What didn't work? Were there any big changes that happened? How have these affected your life over this past year (for better or worse)? Do these changes have anything to do with how productive or happy you feel now? Why not use the opportunity of the New Year as a chance to start fresh and take control of your life? You’re likely to hear about resolutions from those around you, so it’s worth thinking about yours before everyone else gets in on the act. It’s not just about achieving something big, like losing weight or running a marathon – resolutions can be small but significant changes too. So whether it’s learning how to cook healthy meals from scratch, cutting back on alcohol, or taking yoga classes once a week, there are plenty of options for getting started with new habits! There is no right or wrong approach to improving yourself. Take what works for you and leave the rest. Starting slowly can help change your life in small but significant ways that will turn into big changes if you stick to them. If you are keen to change in the new year, start at the beginning. Start by taking one step. We hope we’ve inspired you to start the new year with tips on making your resolutions stick!
Setting Intentions for the New Year

Setting Intentions for the New Year

As we all know, the new year is a time for new beginnings. For some of us, that means setting resolutions we intend to keep. However, if you find yourself falling off the wagon of your lofty intentions within a week or two, there are still ways to get back on track! In this post, we'll talk about setting intentions for the new year by writing them down and keeping them somewhere you will see them every day — plus a few other tips that can help keep your goals on track throughout the year. The new year is a time of reflection. It's a time to think about the people we want to be and the world we want to live in. If these are important to you, consider setting an intention this year rather than making a resolution. Our purpose in life should frame our intentions. Set intentions in specific areas of your life. When setting intentions for the new year, it's important to identify areas where you want to improve. You can think about what your goals are and how you want to grow as a person. A few examples might be: Focus on your relationship with your partner Improve your health by eating better and exercising more Learn something new, like a language or craft. Find time to reflect on your intentions for the new year from a place of joy and optimism. Create a physical space to set your intentions and think about what you value most. Consider the values important to you and consider how space can reflect those values. Adhere to a list of mantras - they can be statements you intend to live by or words you wish to embody. Write those intentions down and keep them somewhere you will see them daily. You can also write them down. This will help you remember, and it's a great way to ensure that you stay true to your goals. If you write them down, ensure they are visible and accessible, so they’re handy when you need inspiration or motivation. Don't just keep them in your head! Break down your larger goals into smaller, daily, or weekly chunks. When you set goals for the year, it's easy to think about the big picture and forget how you'll get there. So, break your larger goals into smaller chunks that are more manageable. For example, if one of your main goals for 2019 is to run a marathon or get in shape, try focusing on running a certain distance each week (such as 3 miles). If that seems too easy for you, aim for something harder, like running three times per week instead of just once. Another way to take control of your life is by ensuring that your intentions aren’t too broad or unrealistic—you may become frustrated if they're not being met quickly enough! It can be helpful to split large tasks into smaller ones, so they feel more manageable; otherwise, we might become overwhelmed by all that needs to be done at once and give up before even getting started. Be realistic about what you can accomplish in a year. The new year is a time when we make resolutions and set intentions. But it’s also important to be realistic about what you can accomplish in a year, since setting the bar too high can lead to disappointment. Here are some tips to keep your goals from being too lofty: Be realistic about what you can accomplish in a year. For example, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds by January 1st, but you haven't worked out since high school gym class and eatúnhelahty food for dinner six nights per week, that might not be reasonable! Achievable goals are usually easier to stick with than lofty ones because they force us to work within our limitations—we have more motivation when we see progress happening slowly rather than getting discouraged by an unrealistic outcome that never happens anyway! Don't be afraid to check in with yourself and see how things are progressing. You know yourself better than anyone, and if you struggle with a goal or take too long to get to the point where it feels “easy” or “natural,” don't be afraid to change your approach. For example, if there's an area of your life that's not working out quite how you'd hoped—a business idea that isn't taking off as quickly as you'd like or a personal relationship that doesn't seem quite right—don't be afraid to ask for help. You might decide that some legal advice is necessary for the business issue (if so, talk with an attorney), or perhaps some open communication from both people involved would suffice in resolving the other issue (in which case, talk with your significant other). If things aren't going according to plan, don't hesitate: to ask questions, seek assistance, and adapt your plans as necessary. Above all else: stay flexible! Keep an open mind when it comes to these goals. Another essential thing to remember as you create your goals is that they can change. Life happens, and things often change along the way. This year might be different than last year, or even this week or day. Your expectations need to be flexible and open-minded if you want to make progress on your intentions. As much as we love setting goals and planning for the future, we also know there is no way of knowing how things will unfold. That’s OK! If something unexpected happens, causing the current path to change drastically, so be it! You can embrace whatever new adventure comes your way with an open mind and adventurous attitude! We encourage you all to do the same: Keep an open mind regarding these goals; don’t set yourself up for failure by saying “no” too early on in an idea because it doesn't fit your original plan perfectly at first glance." By writing down your intentions for the year, you can create a road map to help you stay on track. By writing down your intentions for the year, you can create a road map to help you stay on track. Write down any big goals that you want to accomplish. Break them down into smaller, more manageable chunks, and then write out step-by-step plans for achieving these goals—and make sure they're realistic! Don't be afraid to check in with yourself occasionally throughout the year and see how things are progressing. You can create the best possible version of yourself by writing down your intentions for the year and using them as a road map to help you stay on track. Remember that this is not just about achieving goals or becoming more successful—it’s also about taking time to reflect on what truly makes you happy. Let go, be present, and be in your power. Avoid giving your intention rigid benchmarks or placing pressure on it. Let go, be present, and then be in your power. If you're concerned about losing your way…you can tell a supportive friend about your intention so they can help you get back on track. Hopefully, these simple steps have empowered you to take control of the year ahead in a way that feels stress-free and true to you. Wishing you an intentional new year, from all of us at Source & Self.

Thanksgiving's Most Beneficial Ingredients For Your Health

It's the time of year when families come together to celebrate their love, eat copious amounts of food, and reflect on what they're grateful for. It's also a great time to ensure that you are eating foods that are good for your body! It's no secret that Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays here at Source & Self. Here are five ingredients that might make your meal even more beneficial than you thought: Pumpkin (Pie) High in fiber: One cup of pumpkin contains about four grams of fiber. That's nearly as much as an apple! High in vitamin A: Pumpkins are a good source of vitamin A, which helps your body maintain healthy vision and skin. It also plays an important role in bone formation and cell growth. High in vitamin C: Vitamin C helps with wound healing, boosts immunity, and promotes healthy skin when consumed regularly. Cranberries (Sauce) Cranberries are a great source of antioxidants and vitamin C. In fact, they're one of the few fruits that contain more antioxidants than any other fruit or vegetable. Cranberries are also known to help with digestion and prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). They may even lower cholesterol! Cranberries are commonly used in desserts like pies, cakes, muffins, and bread. Plus, they add a tart flavor that pairs well with poultry dishes like turkey or chicken. You can also use them in sauces for meats during cooking to create unique flavors that go well with your main dish. Sweet potato Sweet potato is a good source of vitamins A and C, and contains fiber and potassium. It also has manganese which helps to strengthen your bones and teeth, prevents rheumatoid arthritis, protects against certain cancers (including lung cancer), boosts hair growth, aids in weight loss by controlling appetite, and boosts energy levels. Vitamin A helps prevent night blindness and dry eyes, while vitamin C reduces inflammation; both are essential for eye health. Corn Corn is a great source of fiber, vitamin C, B6, and folate. It’s also rich in magnesium, phosphorus and thiamin. It can help lower your cholesterol level and it promotes regularity. Corn can be used to reduce inflammation as well as boost your immune system when eaten regularly. Vitamin C helps prevent cancer as well as aids in wound healing Vitamin B6 helps fight stress-related depression by regulating brain chemicals like serotonin that affect mood Folate is involved in making red blood cells for transporting oxygen throughout our bodies; it's also essential for proper nerve cell function Turkey (White meat) Turkey is a great source of protein, zinc, selenium, vitamin B6 and niacin. A 3-ounce serving of white meat turkey provides around 27 grams of protein. It also contains approximately 1 milligram of zinc (about 10% DV), which helps protect against free radical damage that can lead to cancer and other diseases. Selenium is an antioxidant mineral that may help lower cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk. Turkey has 0.8 milligrams per 3-ounce serving (about 19% DV) which is the recommended daily intake for adults aged 19-50, according to the Institute of Medicine’s Food and Nutrition Board (FNB). Vitamin B6 plays a role in energy metabolism by helping convert carbohydrates into glucose so cells can use them as energy sources.  Brussels sprouts Brussels sprouts are cruciferous vegetables, which means that they are related to broccoli and kale. They are a good source of vitamin C, fiber, and vitamin K. They also contain antioxidants that help fight cancer—, particularly colon cancer. Brussels sprouts contain folate (also known as folic acid), which helps reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure. Carrots Carrots are a good source of vitamin A and vitamin K. Carrots are also a good source of vitamin C, beta carotene, manganese and dietary fiber. Vitamin A is an important nutrient that helps your body maintain healthy eyesight and skin. Vitamin K aids in blood clotting, while beta-carotene has an antioxidant activity, which may help prevent cancer or heart disease. Carrots contain minerals like potassium that help regulate fluid balance in the body as well as aid in nerve function; they also provide high levels of vitamin C, which is essential for immune system support as well as collagen formation (read: strong bones). Plus, carrots have been shown to help lower cholesterol levels thanks to their natural ability to reduce inflammation within our bodies! Just cut down on the sugar and butter. The least beneficial ingredients for your health on Thanksgiving are the ones you should cut down on. These include sugar and butter because they're bad for you. If you must have these things, they shouldn't be served in huge quantities like at Thanksgiving dinner—just a few small slices of pie or a modest amount of mashed potatoes would suffice! Other things that can be harmful to your health include alcohol and large quantities of red meat (like beef). However, small amounts of these items won't hurt you too much either. So enjoy them occasionally! The best ingredients are good for your body: vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower; fruits like apples and oranges; nuts like walnuts; fish such as salmon. It's all about balance. Just cut down on some of the extra stuff and you'll be good to go!

How to Use Adaptogens and Herbs to Fight Stress

The heart of any adaptogen is its ability to improve the body's ability to deal with stress and adapt to change. Stress management is an important factor in optimum health, which can be achieved through specific natural products. You can Try Anima Mundi Adaptogenic Happiness, Rae Wellness DeStress Capsules. Adaptogens are a class of herbs that help the body adapt to stress. They are known for their ability to reduce stress, boost the immune system, improve blood circulation and combat fatigue. Adaptogens work by increasing your energy levels and helping you maintain balance throughout your day. They also positively impact your mental health because they can increase serotonin levels in your brain while decreasing anxiety. Finally, they can also protect against free radicals, which can damage cells and DNA over time, leading to premature aging and disease development! Rhodiola Rhodiola is a plant that grows wild in parts of Asia, Europe, and North America. The root has been used for centuries to treat exhaustion and physical weakness due to stress. Rhodiola’s benefits are backed by scientific research that shows it can help with fatigue, depression, and physical exercise performance. Rhodiola works by increasing the amount of serotonin (a hormone) in your body’s nervous system while also reducing cortisol levels after you experience stressful situations. It also stimulates your central nervous system so your brain cells can work more efficiently at processing information—this gives you more energy throughout the day without feeling jittery, like caffeine might cause you to feel. Ashwagandha Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an adaptogenic herb that helps the body adapt to stress and is known as a tonic herb in Ayurvedic medicine. The word ashwagandha literally translates to “smelling like a horse” in Sanskrit, possibly due to its pungent smell or ability to help increase strength and vitality. Ashwagandha has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years. It has been used as a tonic herb that improves digestion, increases energy levels and aids in the treatment of various conditions such as anxiety and insomnia through reducing cortisol levels. St. John’s Wort St. John's wort is a flowering plant used for centuries to treat depression. It is believed to work by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain and reducing monoamine oxidase (MAO). It's been shown to be effective in treating mild to moderate depression, but taking it with certain medications can cause dangerously low blood pressure. However, there is some evidence that St. John’s wort can interfere with your body’s absorption of drugs like birth control pills and antidepressants (SSRIs). Mucuna Mucuna pruriens is a tropical legume that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It is a potent adaptogen, meaning it helps the body adapt to stress and recover from exhaustion. Mucuna pruriens is considered to be one of the premier herbs for people who are trying to lose weight, as it helps increase dopamine levels in the brain—which is important because low levels of dopamine tend to contribute to overeating. Albizzia Albizzia is a tree native to the Mediterranean region, and it has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Albizzia is grown in Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey. Albizzia may be helpful for people who suffer from anxiety or depression.* Adaptogens are herbs that help the body adapt to stress and other environmental factors. They come from all over the world and have been used since ancient times to treat a variety of issues, including anxiety, inflammation and insomnia. Rhodiola, ashwagandha, st john's wort (Hypericum perforatum), mucuna pruriens and albizzia are all examples of adaptogens. These herbs can be taken as teas or supplements in capsule form; they're often found in combination supplement formulas as well due to their complementary effects on the body. Tired of feeling stressed? Introducing adaptogens and herbs that help your mind and body cope with stress. Adaptogens and herbs can help you to boost your energy, improve your focus and reduce stress. They can also be useful for treating a whole host of other conditions like anxiety, depression or chronic fatigue syndrome. The best part about these supplements is that they are completely safe to use so there's no reason not try them out!

How to Live Your Best Life as You Age

How to Live Your Best Life as You Age

The older you get, the more important it is to keep in touch with people you care about. This means more than just staying in touch with your family and friends — it also means staying in touch with colleagues, neighbors and community members. The best way to do this is by making sure you're always reachable by phone or email (you don't have to respond immediately). If someone doesn't have your contact information, encourage them to give you theirs instead. You can also ensure they'll see that information in their inbox whenever they check their email by adding them as a contact on your phone or laptop/computer! As you get older, maintaining relationships becomes vital to your mental health. It may seem simple, but we can easily forget to keep in touch with others as we get busy with our day-to-day lives.

The human body contains around 100 trillion cells, but only around 1 trillion bacteria and fungi reside on your skin. These numbers vary depending on where you live and how much time you spend indoors versus outdoors. In general, the more time spent outdoors (and away from strong air conditioning or sunlight), the higher concentration of good bacteria in your skin will be — so long as you are eating well overall!
